Yellow? Yellow!

Vanha viisaus siitä että "kasveilla värjätessä ei koskaan voi tietää mitä todella tulee" pitää taas paikkansa.
Tässä Joutsenjärven versio kullanruskeasta, joka syntyy omenapuunkuorella!
Sehän on silkkaa kullankeltaista. Voi pettymys.. tai oikeastaan aika upea väri tämäkin.
Useampi litra omenapuun kuoria (hirveä homma oli)
300 g villalankaa
10 l vettä
30 g alunaa

Liotin kuoria yön yli, seuraavana päivänä keittelin hissukseen 2-3 tuntia. Siivilöin ja jäähdytin. Lisäsin kastellut langat kädenlämpöiseen veteen, lämmitin 40 asteeseen ja lisäsin alunan. Haudutin 80-90 asteessa tunnin ja jätin yöksi jäähtymään liemeen.
Aamulla huuhtelin ja tuli kullankeltaista.

Omenapuu antoi nyt keltaista. Now appelthree gave yellow.

Old wisdom that with natural dyes one never knows what to get is true again. Here you have a Joutsenjärvi version of golden brown, whick appletree bark is supposed to give. Is it all gold! Well it is also very nice colour

I have peeled the brances (what a job!!) and had a lot of them (2o l kettle half full)
10 l water
300 g woolen yarns
30 g alum

I soaked the peels overnight and cooked them next day 2-3 hours.
I then straided peels off and cooled the liquid. Added the yarns to lukewarm water, reheated to 40 C and added alum. Then I left it to simmer for one hour, and cooled the yarns overnight. Rinsed next morning. Got yellow!

Nyt odotellaan sitten kylmävärjäyksessä olevan krapin tuloksia.
Puretin 300 grammaa lankaa alunalla ja jätin yöksi puretusliemeen. Olin sekoittanut saman verran krappia kädenlämpöiseen veteen ja jätin senkin yöksi odottamaan.
Aamulla nostin langat liemeen.
Ulkona oli lähes 30 astetta lämmintä neljän päivän ajan, sitten keli jäähtyi vain 9 asteeseen, joten otin ämpärin sisään eteiseen...
Toivon saavani tummaa punaista, mutta taas siellä näkyy se oranssi vivahde...

Krappi kylmävärjäyksessä. Viides päivä. Madder in cold dye. Day five.

Now I am waiting for results form cold dye of madder.
I mondanted 300 g yarn with alum and left the yarn soak overnight. I also mixed 300 g madderroot to good amout of lukewarm water and next morning I mixed the dye and yarn.
I took advantage of the heatwave we had and kept yarn in sunny place for four days. Temperature was about 30 C daytime!
Then the weather cooled in one day to 9 C, so I took the bucket inside ... to my glass covered terrace. I am hoping to get red, but there the orange shade is again...
